D’Annunzio the Hero

After having furnished the Priory, D’Annunzio had the idea of creating a museum to celebrate his heroism and the exploits of the Italian people during the war of 1915-1918. The poet died before he could see work start on this new project, however his desire became reality in 2000 when the spaces of Schifamondo – planned by the architect Giancarlo Maroni and furnished by EttoreCanali to become the poet’s new residence – were opened to the public thus displaying the rich and precious historic legacy linked to Gabriele d’Annunzio’smilitary experience.
In July 2011 the War Museum changed its name to that of “D’Annunzio the Hero” Museum, two new rooms were added housing historic mementos, weapons, flags and autographs from the d’Annunzio collection owned by the Ambassador Antonio Benedetto Spada.
