D’Annunzio the Hero Museum

D’Annunzio the Hero Museum

After having furnished the Priory, d’Annunzio considered establishing a museum that would celebrate his heroism and the endeavours of the Italian people during World War I. But the Poet died before he had the chance to witness the onset of these works. His will was fulfilled in the year 2000 when the Schifamondo area (designed by architect Gian Carlo Maroni and furnished by Ettore Canali to become the Poet’s new residence) was opened to the public, hence promoting the rich and precious historical legacy bound to Gabriele d’Annunzio’s military experience.
In July 2011 the War Museum changed its name and became “D’Annunzio the Hero” museum; it has been annexed with two new showrooms that host historical memorabilia, flags and autographs from the d’Annunzio Collection belonging to Ambassador Antonio Benedetto Spada.
